Martial retains his Player of the Month title

Anthony Martial has been voted Manchester United's Player of the Month by supporters for the second successive month, highlighting his excellent form this season.

It was one of the closest battles we've ever had in our poll, conducted on the club's Twitter account to decide the winner of the trophy. But Martial edged it with 49 per cent of result and finished marginally ahead of David De Gea’s 48 per cent, while Chris Smalling picked up three per cent.

Martial scooped the prize in September and the pacey forward maintained his impressive performances in October, producing more eye-catching performances on the left wing. After Paul Pogba won the August award, Anthony has maintained the run of French winners this campaign.

The former AS Monaco star has now won the fans’ accolade on four occasions as a United player, having previously claimed it twice during his sensational debut season with the Reds.

WHY DID MARTIAL WIN?

Martial once again stood out to fans during a challenging month in three different competitions, featuring in all six of our games – starting four times and appearing as a substitute on two occasions.

Perhaps most notably, the 21-year-old France international made a decisive contribution off the bench against Spurs, scoring the winning goal in the 1-0 Premier League victory at Old Trafford.

It took his tally to seven goals already this season and his impact was highlighted by the fact he went on to earn the club's Man of the Match award, having only been on the pitch for 20 minutes.

Martial also went on to win the star man prize, as voted for by Reds fans on Twitter, after Tuesday's 2-0 Champions League success over Benfica. Despite missing a first-half penalty, he was a constant threat throughout and was involved in most of United’s best moments in the game.
Did you know?

Anthony Martial's match-winning goal against Tottenham Hotspur means only Romelu Lukaku has scored more goals for United this season.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR TONY?

First of all, Martial will hope to start on Sunday when Jose Mourinho’s Reds face rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

That is the final match before the international break and, in recognition of his top form, Anthony has been recalled to the France squad by manager Didier Deschamps. Les Bleus have two upcoming friendlies against Wales and Germany, so our no.11 will hopefully build on his 15 previous caps for his country.
