Sesko shares golden rule for budding strikers

Benjamin Sesko is the latest Manchester United star to sit down and speak to us about the people that have shaped him in his life and career, as part of our Influencers series.

The episode is a real insight into the individuals that our in-form striker looked up to growing up – not least his footballing father, and his previously declared idol Zlatan Ibrahimovic – but also how Benjamin hopes to pay forward that inspiration to the next generation of budding players.

Sesko explains that his golden piece of advice to young strikers is to have the hunger to score again after finding the net, rather than feeling satisfied by hitting the target once.

That mindset perhaps explains how he has become one of the Premier League’s leading marksmen in 2026, scoring seven goals in his last 10 top-flight appearances.

“As the human beings we are, when you’re scoring always, the hunger to have after scoring is the hardest to do,”
he says during the exclusive sit-down chat with former United forward Danny Webber at Carrington.

“That’s why I’m also saying to the kids, or when I go to Slovenia in the national team we always do the signatures and they ask me: ‘What are you doing? What would you give me as advice?’

“I always ask what kind of position they are playing and, if they are a striker, I say: ‘After you are scoring goals, have a hunger for it the next game, even more than you had it before.’

“Not being like: ‘I scored a goal so I’m relaxed now.’ Because that’s the hardest [thing].”
Make no mistake, Sesko isn’t speaking like he thinks he has made it or like he has the quality to ignore that advice himself.

Despite securing a dream transfer to United in the summer and hitting top form since the start of the calendar year, Benjamin is still practicing what he preaches, and says this
“underrated”
fact is something that he is still working on today.

“I used to have it the same, I scored a goal, so I was relaxed. Then the next game I couldn’t perform,” he continues.

“Because I was still [thinking] from the last game: ‘I scored last game.’

“This is really underrated, people don’t know it. That’s where the greatest people are made.

“Always constantly [having] the hunger for goals – they score three, I want to score four. This is the moment where I can improve, to have hunger when I score one, when I score the second, to score the third one, and I’m working on it of course.

“Because if everything would be completed then it would not be fair for me, I want to learn throughout the years.”
