Old Trafford's role in British boxing's top rivalry

A high-profile rematch between boxers Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jnr will take place on Saturday night, 32 years after their famous fathers Nigel and Chris Snr fought at Old Trafford.

The rivalry between the Benn and Eubank families has engrossed the British public across four decades to date, since an explosive bout back in 1990.

Eubank Snr won at the Birmingham NEC Arena and, three years later, unprecedented demand for a rematch led to a second contest at the sold-out Theatre of Dreams.

Over 44,000 fans packed into the stadium with allegiances split between the two charismatic and divisive figures. After 12 gruelling rounds, a draw was declared.
Over 44,000 fans attended the rematch between Benn and Eubank Snr at Old Trafford in '93.
But the story did not end there.

Decades later, the sons became professional fighters as well and their paths dramatically collided in May of this year for an entertaining contest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, won on points by Eubank Jnr.
The rematch takes place at the same venue on Saturday evening.

WHICH FOOTBALL TEAMS DO THEY SUPPORT?

As east London natives, Nigel and Conor Benn are lifelong supporters of West Ham.

Chris Eubank Snr is not known to be a football fan, but Chris Jnr has aligned himself with United and has previously visited our Carrington Training Complex for a tour.

The boxer also visited the squad during Tour 2024 when the team played in Las Vegas, USA.
