Mbeumo named our Man of the Match v Brighton

After a team display that was arguably Manchester United's best of the season to date, Bryan Mbeumo's contribution has been recognised emphatically by supporters.

Mbeumo scored the third and fourth goals of United's 4-2 triumph over Brighton on Saturday, and has now been named our Man of the Match for the second time in 2025/26.

The summer signing from Brentford scooped a massive 78 per cent of all votes on ManUtd.com and in the United App, to finish way ahead at the top of our poll.

Thank you to everyone who got involved.

Poll: An enthralling encounter at Old Trafford - who was Man of the Match for the Reds?

While it was such an impressive collective showing from Ruben Amorim's team, there was no doubting the importance of Mbeumo's involvement, and these results back that up.

Our no.19 was a livewire even before his two second-half strikes, nearly teeing up both Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko in the first 45, while an evasive piece of dribbling left Carlos Baleba with little choice but to stop a swift attack and his fellow Cameroonian's progress by bringing him down and earning a yellow card.

A crowd-pleasing nutmeg on Yasin Ayari after the break then came not long before Bryan had the majority inside Old Trafford on their feet to celebrate his cool finish through the legs of defender Lewis Dunk, which made the scoreline 3-0 after Matheus Cunha and Casemiro's earlier efforts.

That strike looked to have put the result beyond doubt but, after Brighton pulled two back, it was Mbeumo who was on hand to calm the nerves of the home faithful with his second goal, a stoppage-time settler. His left-footed shot, which crashed in off the underside of the Seagulls' bar, is sure to be a frontrunner for our October Goal of the Month award.

That attempt, coming so late in the game, may also have been a difference maker for fans when it came to voting after a strong all-round showing from the Reds.

Cunha, who got his first United goal on the evening, was also a joy to watch and subsequently collected the Premier League's official star-man award.

The Brazilian came second in our poll, with 11 per cent of all selections, ahead of fellow scorer Casemiro and captain Bruno Fernandes who tied for third (three per cent each).
