Stoney and Heath win November WSL awards

Manchester United Women's pair Casey Stoney and Tobin Heath have won the Barclays FA Women's Super League Manager and Player of the Month awards for November.

The Reds beat Arsenal 1-0 last month to move to the summit of the top flight for the first time since our formation, and followed up that performance with a 2-2 comeback draw against Manchester City at Leigh Sports Village.

In that derby, United's unbeaten start to the season looked under threat, but Heath's wondergoal, coupled with some shrewd substitutions from Stoney, helped us recover in a pulsating, end-to-end encounter.

The Reds' continued good form in the league - it's now six wins from eight in 2020/21, with two draws - means our head coach has finally claimed the WSL's monthly managerial accolade, having been nominated four times previously.

The former England international, who won the Championship Manager of the Month on three occasions during our promotion season, saw off competition from Emma Hayes and Gareth Taylor, who are in charge of champions Chelsea and Manchester City respectively.

As for Heath, her thunderbolt in the derby was her second goal for the Reds since joining in September, as the two-time World Cup winner continues to show her worth to the side.

In a fiercely-contested poll, the 32-year-old won more votes than Pernille Harder (Chelsea), Anita Asante (Aston Villa), Ellen White (Manchester City) and Hannah Hampton (Birmingham City). It's the second time a Red has emerged victorious when it comes to this particular award, after Kirsty Hanson claimed the prize in October 2019.

United Women seek to maintain our excellent start to the campaign, with a trip to Reading on Sunday 13 December.
