Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says he must await Christian Eriksen's diagnosis after the midfielder was substituted in the second half of our 3-1 Emirates FA Cup victory against Reading.
The Reds sailed into the fifth round of the competition with a convincing win over the Championship outfit at Old Trafford on Saturday, but one dampener on the evening was the sight of Eriksen being withdrawn after suffering a knock.
Following the match, Ten Hag was asked about the fitness of the Denmark international.
“It’s always difficult to say in this moment so short after the game has finished,”
said the manager, during his post-match press conference.
“But it’s an ankle [problem]. We have to see what is the diagnosis, so it costs us a minimum of 24 hours before we know that and then I can say more.”
The Denmark international failed to shake off a knock sustained at the start of the second half, when he was scythed down by Reading forward Andy Carroll.
Eriksen was replaced by fellow midfielder Fred who came on to score our third goal in the match, in the 57th minute. Carroll was later dismissed for two bookable offences.
United next face Nottingham Forest in the second leg of our Carabao Cup semi-final, at Old Trafford on Wednesday, and Erik will of course hope to have Eriksen available.
The manager may issue a further update on the fitness of our no.14 before that fixture.
