Eriksen joins small band of Reds

Christian Eriksen joined a very elite band of players when he scored on his farewell Manchester United appearance.

The Denmark international gratefully accepted captain Bruno Fernandes's offer to take the penalty in the 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season.

By firing past substitute keeper Robin Olsen, Eriksen ensured he became only the fourth Red since 1992 to mark their final United game by getting on the scoresheet.

It was a fitting moment to enjoy for the much-respected midfielder, who is leaving on a free transfer when his contract expires.

Christian Eriksen ensured he signed off at Old Trafford with a goal.

The last player to do this was Josh Harrop, who was a more unusual case as he netted in his one and only senior game for the club.

The Academy product hit a beauty in the win over Crystal Palace in the last league outing of 2016/17.

Following the dream debut for Jose Mourinho's men, he was transferred to Preston North End a couple of months later.

Harrop, now 29, was the sixth player to score in their only outing for the club.

The others are George Evans, Robert Stephenson, John Holt, William Bainbridge and Albert Kinsey.

Liverpool-born Kinsey bagged the winner in an FA Cup tie against Chester City in 1965 at Old Trafford, with George Best also netting in a 2-1 victory.

What a moment that Josh Harrop will always remember!

David Beckham famously also ended his glorious United career with a goal, poetically grabbing a trademark free-kick in the 2-1 win at Everton, with Sir Alex Ferguson's side already crowned champions.

The England star's future was very much debated and in doubt when he levelled Kevin Campbell's opener and Ruud van Nistelrooy struck the winner from the penalty spot at Goodison Park, in May 2005.

Becks had also netted in the previous match, opening the scoring in a 4-1 thumping of Charlton Athletic, so finished on a real high, before departing for Real Madrid in the summer.

David Beckham provided one last magnificent illustration of his free-kick technique.

The only other man in the Premier League era to achieve this feat was the player Beckham effectively replaced on the right flank of Ferguson's team.

Andrei Kanchelskis was adored by the Old Trafford faithful and the 15th goal of his most productive season in Manchester proved to be his last.

Arsenal were already 2-0 down in March 1995, when, with 10 minutes left, the flying Ukrainian pounced on a rebound to add to previous efforts from Mark Hughes and Lee Sharpe.

United missed out on the League and FA Cup, in agonising fashion, that term, and Ferguson controversially sold Paul Ince, Kanchelskis and Hughes, to accommodate the burgeoning talents of the Class of '92.

Kanchelskis moved to Everton in the August.

Andrei Kanchelskis had a great final campaign as a Red.

Others to have marked their farewell games with a goal include centre-forward Joe Jordan, who notched the only goal of the home win over Norwich City in April 1981, ahead of a transfer to Milan in the July. Viv Anderson only ever scored four goals for the Reds in his 69 matches but he was on the mark against Halifax Town in the League Cup in October 1990, which proved to be his Reds swansong.

Dennis Viollet, like Beckham, netted in his final two appearances, with the last of 179 strikes coming in 1961, during a 2-2 draw with Leicester City at Old Trafford.

Scottish striker Jimmy Turnbull managed to hit a brace to sign off in style in April 1910, with his double helping see off Everton 3-2.
