Eriksen: How I signed for United

This week’s episode of the UTD Podcast features a very special guest - Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The Denmark international returned to action in United’s 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday, following a spell on the sidelines when he was recovering from an ankle injury he sustained against Reading in January.

And while working his way back up to full fitness at Carrington in recent weeks, our no.14 took some time out to record a UTD Podcast episode that will be exclusively available in the United App from 17:00 BST on Tuesday.

During the discussion, Christian takes us back to the summer with the story of how he joined the Reds, offering an insight into his decision to move to Manchester upon the expiry of his six-month contract at fellow Premier League side Brentford.

How did Eriksen become a Red?video

“Well I ended up being at Brentford until the summer obviously and the contract was running out,”
Eriksen begins, speaking to UTD Podcast hosts David May, Helen Evans and Sam Homewood.

“So I was free to talk to other clubs and I kept my possibilities open.

“At the time, I wasn’t closed down on going back to Brentford, I wanted to see what else came in or [if] something could tempt me away from how good it was there.

“And then, of course, United came in.”

When he joined the Reds in July, Christian explained how Erik ten Hag, then United's new manager, influenced his decision to come to Old Trafford.

The midfielder reiterated that factor while recording his UTD Podcast.

“[I was] speaking to the manager on the phone and then I could actually see myself going to United,” said the Dane.

“Luckily, they pulled through [to make the move] and I did as well.

“So, in the end, coming here was definitely very special.”
