Early team news: Reds v Sheffield United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be considering whether to stick or twist with his team selection ahead of Manchester United's home match against Sheffield United on Wednesday evening.

The Reds fought back to earn a point against Tottenham Hotspur in our first Premier League game after lockdown on Friday night, thanks to Bruno Fernandes’s late penalty in North London.

Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood and Nemanja Matic all made a significant impact after coming off the bench and will be pushing for a starting berth ahead of our return to Old Trafford, while Odion Ighalo and Eric Bailly were also involved as substitutes – with United able to make five changes in a game for the very first time under the new rules.

Pogba, who won the spot-kick after being fouled by Eric Dier, was particularly impressive in his first appearance of 2020, dovetailing well with Fernandes and almost playing in Marcus Rashford late on with an inch-perfect 40-yard pass.

Post-match, Luke Shaw suggested that the Frenchman could be in line to start against the Blades - nine months after he last appeared in United's first XI.

With United facing a trip down to East Anglia to play Norwich City in the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday, Ole could opt to rotate his side, especially with the likes of Rashford and Scott McTominay still finding their way back to full match fitness after prolonged periods on the sidelines so far this year.

Brandon Williams, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard were unused substitutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and could be in with a chance of returning to the side.

We await an update on the fitness of defenders Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones, who missed out on the trip to the capital through injury.

Victor Lindelof limped off towards the end of Friday's game and it's not yet clear whether he'll be available to face the Blades.

SHEFFIELD UNITED TEAM NEWS

Dean Henderson is ineligible due to the conditions of the goalkeeper's loan deal from the Reds, with Simon Moore expected to deputise, as he did in the reverse fixture in November.

The Blades will be without defender John Egan, who is serving a one-match suspension after being sent off for two bookable offences during the 3-0 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday.

Chris Wilder is waiting for news on the fitness of Jack O’Connell (knee) and David McGoldrick (knock). The former has been missing since the restart, while McGoldrick sat out the Blades’ last game after limping off towards the end of the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa last week.

Ole and his opposite number are likely to provide further updates on their squads when they hold their pre-match press conferences on Tuesday.
