Cavani proud to wear the United shirt

Edinson Cavani has pledged to fight until his last minute wearing the Manchester United shirt as he aims to enjoy more joyous moments with the supporters.

The Uruguay international extended his contract for another season recently and can look forward to experiencing Old Trafford as it should be after having a taste of the atmosphere when 10,000 fans returned for the 1-1 draw with Fulham on Tuesday.

Those fortunate enough to be inside the Theatre of Dreams had a moment to cherish and share with our South American striker, as he scored an incredible long-range lob that perfectly showcased his world-class shooting ability.

In an interview with club media after agreeing to the one-year extension, Edi expressed his total commitment to the cause and explained why he is feeling in peak condition ahead of the Europa League final next week, and the chance to lift a trophy in his first season with the club.

“I think I’m in decent form and I feel fit and very good in myself,” he told us. “I think there is always something that you can improve upon, always something, how can I put it, where you can improve or sharpen up even more to help you to remain at the highest level.

“Honestly, before I came here to United, I wasn’t carrying an injury. I finished off the game quite well fitness-wise and felt fine in the last PSG Champions League game I featured in, against [Borussia] Dortmund. The slight problem I had in my adductor when I arrived here, I reckon could have been more to do with getting used to training hard once again after a long lay-off. But yes, I feel good right now, full of desire to do well, keen to train hard, and yes, if I can, I’ll be aiming to get better and keep improving. Absolutely!”

Cavani has reached double figures in the Premier League and fired 16 goals in total during an impressive first campaign in England.

When asked if he had a message for the supporters, who have been quick to appreciate his talent and efforts, he pledged to give every last ounce of energy to help ensure the Reds fans have much to celebrate.

“I’m very happy and pleased to be a part of this club and to wear this shirt with pride,” he said. “As I mentioned before, I’m one of football’s hard workers, and I’m here to give my very best, right until the final minute of every game and until the final game I play for the club.

“I’ll be doing my best to ensure we can enjoy some happy moments altogether,” he added. “So, I hope to see you all soon, and thanks very much for all the good wishes I’ve received throughout the difficult and complicated year we’ve all been having, both on social media and from the people around me.”

United finish the Premier League season at Wolves on Sunday, with second place in the table already secured following Leicester City's defeat to Chelsea. Of course, the campaign ends with the 26 May date in Gdansk against Villarreal, when Edi will be looking to add to his five goals in the competition this term.
