EFL confirms Carabao Cup final pushed back to April

This season's Carabao Cup final, initially scheduled for Sunday 28 February 2021, will now take place on Sunday 25 April 2021, the EFL has confirmed.

The decision to delay the match, due to take place at Wembley Stadium, has been made in order to allow as many supporters to attend as possible.

“The number of fans permitted will be dependent on Government guidance in place at the time and it is hoped that moving the date to later in the year will give clubs and their fans the best opportunity to attend in person,” read a short statement given by the competition's governing body.

The quarter-final stage of the tournament is set to go ahead as planned this week, with United travelling to Goodison Park on Wednesday, to take on Everton in the last of the ties.

Earlier that evening, Championship side Stoke City host Tottenham Hotspur, while, on Tuesday, Newcastle visit Brentford and Arsenal play Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are looking for a sixth victory in the competition, and a first since 2017.

Our crosstown rivals City have won each of the last three editions of the Carabao Cup, narrowly seeing off United at the semi-final stage last season, and it's possible that the two Manchester clubs could be drawn together in January's last-four, if both progress this week.
