Manchester United Women’s forward Ella Toone insists the Reds won’t dwell on Sunday’s draw at Everton but says the team will use it to help improve going forward.
But the hosts did get back on level terms towards the end of the contest, courtesy of Simeone Magill, limiting the Reds to just a point at Walton Hall Park.
It goes without saying that we are disappointed not to win the game, admitted Toone afterwards, but the midfielder says that it is an experience that we must learn from.
“Obviously, we’re a bit disappointed that we haven’t come away with all three points,”Ella told MUTV after the final whistle.
“We go into every game wanting to come out with three points so to concede that goal, quite late on, is disappointing.
“We’ll learn from it, we’ll work hard, we won’t dwell on it too much, but I think we need to be better in both boxes.”
The midfielder was asked about her latest strike, and her form for club and country in 2021/22, during her post-match media duties.
“I thought it was good play [leading up to our goal]. I thought we controlled the first half really well and started really well, so to get the goal early on was great, and we deserved it.our no.7 added.
“I’m happy to contribute with the goal but, obviously, we’re disappointed not to get the three points and there are a lot of lessons to learn from.
“I feel good. I know I could have been a lot better today [Sunday], in and out of possession, but I’ve just got to keep working hard, keep learning,”
“I’ll watch the game back and see where I could have done better but I’ve had a good couple of games, scoring a hat-trick for England was amazing, getting on the scoresheet today was great, but I want to keep helping the team get the three points.”
Also speaking to MUTV post match, Mannion expressed her disappointment not to get the win, particularly for our travelling supporters who came across the M62 to support the team in great numbers.
Our no.5 praised our fans for that, and the atmosphere created at the ground overall, during the encounter played out on ‘Women’s Football Weekend’.
“They were so loud, not just at this ground, it’s felt like a home game at times, when actually it’s an away game.
“The support from everyone in general really was really good, but, in particular, our fans are second to none and so we are disappointed we weren’t able to give them what they deserve today.”
Aoife subsequently spoke of the Reds’ desire to produce the response our supporters deserve when we next take to the pitch, for Wednesday night’s Continental Tyres League Cup derby, at home to Manchester City.
“We’re disappointed in this moment, but we have to keep those emotions to as minimal moments as possible because there’s a derby in midweek, that won’t need too much talking for us to get up to.
“We’ll be really excited, energetic and determined to go into that game, especially off the back of what’s felt like a disappointing note and end to the game today.
“We definitely feel like we can create a really good performance on Wednesday and give the fans what they deserve.”
