Four in frame for Player of the Month

There are four names competing for our first Player-of-the-Month award of 2023.

It was another largely positive month for Erik ten Hag's men and that is reflected in the wealth of options open for winning this trophy.

Marcus Rashford can retain it, after a fabulous December, but the in-form forward faces competition from three of his colleagues: Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Check our reviews of each of the quartet's month and then cast your vote below...

Highlights: United v Readingvideo

CASEMIRO - 6 apps / 3 goals / 2 assists / 2 MOTM

Our no.18 started the year in style by volleying home our opening goal of 2023, setting us on the way to a 3-0 win over Bournemouth. An accomplished all-round performance earned him the Man-of-the-Match award.

After helping the Reds progress in the Emirates FA Cup and Carabao Cup, coming off the bench against Charlton Athletic and setting up Rashford's second strike in the dying seconds, the Brazil international was in the thick of things in the memorable derby win over Manchester City, making some key interventions. The midfielder's next outing accrued a costly yellow card, at Crystal Palace, so he missed the defeat at Arsenal, our only loss of the month.

He was straight back into the side for the 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg, gaining another assist for Rashford's solo opener, and produced a masterful two-goal show against Reading which ensured he was impossible to overlook for this trophy.

BRUNO FERNANDES - 7 apps / 3 goals / 3 assists

The midfield star has broken the 100 goal contributions barrier for the Reds, as he celebrates his three-year anniversary at the club, and has been a driving force throughout January. An unselfish pass allowed Rashford to round off the 3-0 win over Bournemouth and, after helping to knock Everton out of the FA Cup, he scored the equaliser in the 2-1 derby triumph over City at Old Trafford.

Another goal swiftly followed, to hand us the lead at Crystal Palace, as he swept in a superb finish, only for the Eagles to nick a point in injury time. It was Bruno's pass that led to Rashford opening the scoring away to Arsenal, and he made it three goals in four games with an unerring low drive to substitute Anthony Elanga's clever scooped ball late on at Forest.

Another assist was secured when crossing for Fred to flick home against Reading, last time out.

MARCUS RASHFORD - 7 (1) apps / 7 goals / 2 assists / 4 MOTM

It may prove difficult to look beyond December's Player of the Month as the homegrown forward continues to dazzle with his virtuoso attacking work. Many have described him as unstoppable and he started the year well with the final goal in the win over Bournemouth. The England international then tormented Everton in the FA Cup third round, claiming assists for Antony's opener and the Conor Coady own goal before accepting the opportunity to fire a penalty past Three Lions colleague Jordan Pickford at the death.

A beautifully taken late brace as a substitute against Charlton, made it four goals in three games in 2023 and that soon became five in four, after the prodded finish to Alejandro Garnacho's centre sparked bedlam at Old Trafford during the memorable Manchester derby. Although he did not manage to get on the scoresheet at Palace, he did strike in the capital against Arsenal with a Premier League Goal-of-the-Month contender, lashing past Aaron Ramsdale from distance.

A brilliant solo effort helped the Reds make a blistering start to the Carabao Cup semi-final last week at Forest and he was cruelly denied setting a new outright record for scoring in the most consecutive games at Old Trafford when VAR ruled Wout Weghorst offside in the build-up to his header against Reading on Saturday night.

AARON WAN-BISSAKA (7 apps / 1 MOTM)

The full-back deserves recognition for grasping his opportunity with both hands, of late, with the highlight being a Man-of-the-Match display at his former club Crystal Palace, which even drew praise from Eagles forward Wilfried Zaha, as a late tackle denied him a certain winner.

The defender helped keep clean sheets against Bournemouth and Charlton, and was a key contributor to the derby victory, generating extra energy from the crowd at a crucial time with some great work down the right. After the narrow defeat to Premier League leaders Arsenal, he performed well again in back-to-back wins over Forest and Reading, and has made the most of this chance with Diogo Dalot still out injured.
