Harry Maguire believes fresh energy has been introduced into the camp this week, ahead of Saturday's Manchester derby against City.
The central defender, who made his comeback from injury as a substitute during the Emirates FA Cup tie against Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, has been the first player speaking following the arrival of Michael Carrick as head coach.
Having already worked under Carrick previously, Maguire knows the former midfielder's qualities well but has been pleased with how things are already shaping up under the new coaching team, with the 12:30 GMT kick-off at Old Trafford rapidly approaching.
“Yeah, I'm really impressed,”
he told Sky Sports. “Obviously, I knew Carras from before and I spoke highly of him. He was a magnificent coach when he was here, under Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer].
”He has got great ideas, speaks really well and is, tactically, really, really good. Now he's had a lot of experience at Middlesbrough, as manager, and I am sure he will come in here and implement his ideas.
“He is a legend of this club and I am sure the fans will get right behind him.
”I must say, him and all his coaching staff, I've been really impressed with this week.“
Although there have only been a couple of training sessions, so far, the energy is one key ingredient that Carrick has injected into the squad already.
“Obviously, I think we've not had much time on the grass,”
the centre-back added. “We've had a couple of sessions and I think he's trying to bring new energy and new ideas, without drilling us too much tactically, at this moment.
”He wants to bring the energy back into the building and I think that's so important. Obviously, this club is scrutinised with a lot of eyes on it all the time, analysed, and a lot of people can lose a little bit of energy within that.
“Michael has obviously played here and performed in unbelievable teams and been a magnificent player. He knows what is needed to win here and what is needed for a team and group of people, a group of staff.
”It feels like he's brought a lot of energy into this week and the players have bought into it.“
