The opening of a renovated Carrington facility has helped Manchester United’s squad turn over a new page after a difficult 2024/25 campaign, says experienced defender Harry Maguire.
After a highly positive and productive Tour 2025, with games in Sweden and the USA, United’s players returned to a freshly opened new main building at Carrington, which we’ve proudly called home since 2000.
Maguire believes it’s been a crucial factor in moving things on from last season’s disappointment, which culminated with defeat in the Europa League final.
“It definitely feels like a fresh start,”
the centre-back explained.
“We’ve had a bad season last year, so we need to put that behind us and start fresh, and I think the facility is going to help that. It’s really impressive. It’s amazing to be in there. There’s no excuses with the facilities now — they’re amazing, so I’m really pleased to be back.
“I think Sir Jim [Ratcliffe] said in his opening speeches, they’ve done really well to make it on time. We looked at it three months ago and thought, ‘ah, it’s going to be a few months late!’
“But no, really impressed with all. It’s perfect for us to train in and to improve in.”
Maguire also believes the club’s four new signings in the transfer window have had a positive effect on the mentality.
“Signing new players helps with thinking of it as a fresh start,”
he said, before discussing the latest arrival, Benjamin Sesko.
“I haven’t trained too much with him yet. He’s a big size — a unit, for his age. I’m sure he’s going to cause a lot of defenders problems.
“He’s still young, and we’ve got to remember that as a club and as a fan base. He’s got all the attributes to contribute to the team and to contribute to this club for many years to come, so we’ll give him our full backing and fingers crossed he scores many goals for us!”
