Manchester United Women are back at Old Trafford this weekend as we welcome West Ham United for another important Women's Super League clash.
It's the second time we've staged a WSL game at the Theatre of Dreams this season, following December's thrilling 5-0 win over Aston Villa.

After picking up injuries in our quarter-final clash with Lewes last weekend, both Lisa Naalsund and Maria Thorisdottir are expected to miss Saturday’s clash. In his post-match interview on Sunday, Skinner believed Naalsund’s injury was a hamstring tweak whereas Thorisdottir’s was a ‘contact’ injury. One Red could be in line to make her first appearance in a United shirt – Jayde Riviere. The Canadian joined us in the winter transfer window and has been working her way back from injury and has since begun team training.
In his pre-match press conference with the media, Skinner gave an insight into what fans can expect from the full-back, saying:
“She’s fearless with the ball, moves effortlessly, wants to progress, wants to defend one v one with aggressive actions.
“She’s good with the ball and without the ball, so she’ll be really exciting, the type of player that Manchester United want. I think you’re going to see a lot of good things with Jayde.”
There’ll be a familiar face on the visiting side as former Reds defender Kirsty Smith returns to Old Trafford. Fellow full-back and team-mate Risa Shimizu is another West Ham player to look out for, as she looks to continue an impressive season with the London-based club.
FORM GUIDE
The Reds come into this fixture in a rich vein of form, having lost just two games in the WSL all season. Both defeats were at the hands of Chelsea, who will visit third-placed Manchester City in another huge clash on Sunday (kick-off 12:40 BST). We currently have the same points tally as our local rivals - 35 after 15 games - but are ahead of them in the WSL table on goal difference.
Our players will be full of confidence, having just booked our place in the semi-final of the Women’s FA Cup last weekend with a 3-1 win over Lewes; it is the first time we’ve reached this point of the competition.
Saturday’s visitors currently sit seventh in the WSL table, having won just five of the 15 games they have played during the current campaign so far.
The Hammers will be looking to pick up their first win since mid-January when they narrowly beat Liverpool 1-0, with a draw against Arsenal being the only other point they’ve earned since then. After back-to-back defeats against Reading and Aston Villa, Paul Konchesky’s side will no doubt be eyeing an upset in front of the Old Trafford faithful.
WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME WE MET?
Skinner’s side have already played the Hammers once this season, in our second outing of the new campaign. We travelled to London eight days after an opening 4-0 home win over Reading and followed it up with a comprehensive 2-0 victory over the hosts.
Lucia Garcia and Hannah Blundell were on the scoresheet for that visit, with the Reds wrapping the game up just after half-time and keeping a second consecutive clean sheet.
Saturday will mark the second time West Ham's women's team have been to Old Trafford, with the Hammers being our first-ever visitors just under two years ago. Despite fans being unable to attend, we ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from the now departed Lauren James and Christen Press.
