Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens has told the club’s Inside Carrington podcast he was humbled to receive praise from Sir Alex Ferguson.
Senne’s performance caught the attention of our former manager, Sir Alex, who described his early displays as
“outstanding”in an interview with Raceday RTV.
During a feature-length char for episode four of our new podcast, co-host Helen Evans asks Lammens if he is aware of the high praise.
“Yeah, I read it somewhere and, at first, I couldn't really believe it, to be honest,”
explains Senne, with a smile.
“He is such a big name and especially at this club, so I was a little bit surprised, but it felt really, really good, to be honest.
“I haven't met him yet, so I'm looking forward to that as well. But coming from him, yeah, it's really nice to hear as well, someone with so much experience and such a big name at this club. It's only good to hear.”
The 23-year-old stopper has a diligent approach to high performance and works hard not to ride the rollercoaster of emotions that football can drive.
Asked about his heroes, Lammens says:
“Thibaut Courtois, because he's also from Belgium. I watched him a lot growing up, especially in the national team when we played World Cups and European Championships.
“I think Manuel Neuer also is a big example for me because he's so all-around, with his feet and helping the defence as well behind him.”
