Jay Shetty: My Ultimate United XI

Lifelong Red, award-winning life coach and former monk Jay Shetty has revealed his ultimate Manchester United XI.

The best-selling author sat down with us during his visit to Old Trafford earlier this year, when he was invited to share his team selection.

Shetty decided on an old-fashioned 4-4-2 formation to mould his ideal team, a task proven very tricky with so many all-time great players gracing the Theatre of Dreams. Find out which players the famed life coach selected here...

In goal, David De Gea was the preferred choice, although Shetty admitted this was the toughest decision as he was torn between Peter Schmeichel and the Spaniard.

In defence, Shetty opted for Gary Neville at right-back, while fan-favourite Patrice Evra was selected at left-back.

The centre back pairing was Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic - this duo are regarded as one of United’s greatest ever centre-back partnerships.

Shetty described Ferdinand as a reliable and confident figure at the back, while deciding to go for Vidic due to his role in the strongest United side he had witnessed.

There was also an honourable mention for Gary Pallister at the heart of the defence, a player who Shetty said he would have picked if he asked his dad.
The podcast host chose a pair of United legends in midfield, with Paul Scholes and Roy Keane getting the nod.

Shetty explained how much he loved watching Keane play for the Reds and how there was nothing better as a fan than the Irishman’s energy and passion on the pitch.

Class of '92 graduates David Beckham and Ryan Giggs were the choices in the wide areas to complete midfield. Shetty praised Beckham’s expert crossing from the right-flank as well as his masterful free-kicks.

In attack, there was a wealth of options to choose from, including the likes of Eric Cantona, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke.

However, it was Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo who Shetty elected to complete his United XI.

Shetty pointed out how well Rooney and Ronaldo linked up together during their time at Old Trafford as the main factor in deciding who would lead the frontline.
