Forward Leah Galton has said Manchester United Women “look different this year”
in an interview with our official matchday programme.
The 31-year-old sat down with club reporter Mikey Partington to preview our WSL meeting with the Villans, as we look to extend our seven-game unbeaten run in the league.
Galton discussed her return from injury, UEFA Women's Champions League outings, her view on team-mates Fridolina Rolfo and Ella Toone, and much more in the full interview, which you can read in the printed copy of the programme, available to purchase on the day at the Progress With Unity Stadium for just £3.
But a key theme of the chat was the difference the winger has noticed in Marc Skinner's side this term, reflected in our blistering start to the campaign.
“From watching it, we look different this year,”
Galton declared, having spent a significant time watching from the sidelines, before her return to the pitch as a substitute in our WSL clash with Everton in the middle of October.
“We look like other teams are scared of us,” he told us. “We've missed that a little bit; we haven't really had that.
”Obviously, we've always been up there – I'm not saying we haven't – but I haven't seen other teams come to Leigh and think: 'Oh, this is going to be tough for us.'
“We're up there, we look good.”
The Reds will be hoping that Villa arrive with the same trepidation Leah has spotted in past opponents, and she's in no doubt how crucial our supporters are in creating that atmosphere.
“It's going to be exciting at Leigh,”
she admitted, looking ahead to Saturday's game. “Our fans are great at Leigh.
”Villa are a very well structured team. Sometimes the table doesn't show how good they are, because they are actually a very good team.“
Following appearances against the Toffees and Atletico Madrid, Galton is hoping contribute even further heading into this weekend.
“All the girls want the same thing – success, to be good,”
she told club media. “But it's like you are fighting for your family. It feels different.
”We've had some big personalities and super-easy people to get along with. They've also brought experience and something different we've not had before.
“Putting that all together is working for us at the minute. I've wanted to play more, but it's been enjoyable to watch.”
