In-form Shaw recalls first United goal

Luke Shaw’s goal in the recent 3-0 win over Bournemouth was only his fourth in a Manchester United shirt.

The left-back, who is in scintillating form at present, started the move from defence and arrived at the right time to caress Alejandro Garnacho’s cross beyond Cherries goalkeeper Mark Travers, doubling United’s lead at the time.

Luke ran to celebrate in front of the Stretford End, much like he did when he notched for the club for the very first time, against Leicester in 2018.

In a recent interview for the January edition of Inside United, out now, Shaw revisited key landmarks from his career to date, including that goal against the Foxes.

“I hadn’t scored, so it’s always on your mind that you want to try and get your first goal as soon as possible really,” he said.

“I had to wait a long time and it came at a good time for me really, here [at Old Trafford], in front of the Stretford End, my home ground, to win the game.

“Like I said, [it was] my first one, so it was a really nice moment for me and my family, and for me to get off the mark finally.”

Shaw has been one of the standout performers under Erik ten Hag this term, and impressive displays at both left-back and a slightly more unorthodox centre-back role earned him a nomination for our December Player of the Month award.

He will no doubt be hoping to continue in the same vein of form in this January and beyond, as we get stuck into the second half of the campaign.
