The outcome of Sunday's Premier League game at Elland Road remained in the balance for the entirety of the 90 minutes – and our Man of the Match poll followed the same trajectory.
In a game with relatively few golden chances, United’s two full-backs dominated the voting.
And, remarkably, when our poll closed, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw had both finished with an equal share of the vote – 22 per cent.
Eventually, Wan-Bissaka was confirmed as our winner by the slenderest margin: a virtual handful of votes.
Wan-Bissaka often draws praise for his one-on-one defending, and this was a perfect chance to show his skills in that regard, against Marcelo Bielsa’s famously proactive Leeds.
The full-back got an important block in on Tyler Robert’s shot in the second period, deflecting the ball just over Dean Henderson’s bar.
But Wan-Bissaka also excelled as an attacking threat at Elland Road, arguably creating our best chance of the game by beating his man and crossing for Bruno Fernandes who, unfortunately, dragged his shot wide.
But it was an impressive all-round display from the Londoner, who also managed to get in his usual bucket-full of impressive tackles and interceptions.
Shaw was also excellent, particularly in the first half, where he linked well with Marcus Rashford and was a tireless outlet for the Reds’ attacking endeavours.
Opta revealed that the left-back has now created 11 chances in his last two games while, in 2021, he has delivered more chances for his team-mates than any other player in the top-flight (50).
Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 22 per cent
Luke Shaw - 22 per cent
Bruno Fernandes - 16 per cent
Mason Greenwood - nine per cent
Congratulations, Aaron, and thanks to everyone who voted in our Official App.
