Your guide to the 2022/23 Carabao Cup quarter-finals

Manchester United are set to compete in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening when Charlton Athletic are the visitors to Old Trafford.

The 20:00 GMT kick-off will be our fifth appearance at the last-eight stage of the competition in the last seven seasons, as we look to go on and lift the trophy for the sixth time in our history.

Tuesday’s game is one of four fixtures to be played in the tournament this week, as it reaches its business end, and so we thought it would be useful to outline everything that’s at stake, how you can keep across all the action and more.

WHO ELSE IS IN THE QUARTER-FINALS?

Our attention will, of course, be on the Reds’ quest to reach the last four, with League One side Charlton barring the way.

The fixture in M16 is just one of two matches taking place in the cup on the night however, with Newcastle United and Leicester City (also 20:00 GMT) going head-to-head at St James’ Park for a semi-final berth.

On Wednesday, the quarter-final action continues with another double-header – first up, Nottingham Forest host Wolves at The City Ground (19:45 GMT) - a repeat of the 1980 final.

Kicking off 15 minutes later on the south coast, in the fourth and final tie of this round, are Southampton and Manchester City.

HOW CAN I WATCH AND FOLLOW THE ACTION?

A limited number of tickets remain available for United’s meeting with Charlton at Old Trafford and can be purchased here. The game will not be broadcast live on television in the UK, but you can stay up to date with everything going on via our app, with live radio commentary throughout the 90 minutes, along with rolling updates.

Newcastle United v Leicester City (Tuesday) and Southampton v Manchester City (Wednesday) are the ties that have been selected for TV broadcast in the UK and will be shown live on Sky Sports.

HOW WILL TIES BE DECIDED?

If scores are level after 90 minutes in any of the four last-eight matches, they will be settled by a penalty shootout. Extra-time will only be used in the [two-legged] semi-finals and final of this season’s competition, as is the same for the use of VAR.
