Everybody at Manchester United was disappointed that last Saturday's Brighton & Hove Albion match at Old Trafford was postponed, yet the club made the best of a bad situation by donating more than 4,000 food items from the stadium to local food banks.
With over 75,000 fans in attendance, Old Trafford matchdays are huge operations that require large amounts of perishable goods, so the club was determined to ensure that none of it simply went to waste.
Food and other items of value, like hospitality gifts, were all given to charities in the local area, while fresh flowers from the hospitality suites were donated to St Ann's Hospice.
All of this builds on last week's £100,000 joint donation by the club and our Manchester United Foundation to food charity FareShare.
