Hannibal set for World Cup with Tunisia

On-loan midfielder Hannibal is the 16th Manchester United player to be selected by his country for this winter's World Cup in Qatar.

The 19-year-old, who is spending the season with Birmingham City in the Championship, has made it into Tunisia's squad, having been selected by coach Jalel Kadri as the Eagles of Carthage prepare for Group D fixtures against Australia, Denmark and France.

Despite his young age, this will be a third senior tournament already for Hannibal, who has made three appearances for United's first team and won the Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year award in 2021.

Hannibal celebrates with Tunisia's players after victory over Japan earlier in 2022.

Born near Paris, Hannibal represented France at youth level before opting to play for the nation of his parents' birth last summer.

Capped for the first time in June 2021, he started all five games at the FIFA Arab Cup in December as the African side made it to the final before being beaten by Algeria.

The following month, he was selected for the Africa Cup of Nations campaign and made two appearances at the tournament in Cameroon, with Tunisia knocked out by Burkina Faso at the quarter-final stage.

Hannibal has enjoyed a good run of senior football at St Andrew's this term, registering two assists in 15 league games for John Eustace's side, who sit 13th in the Championship.
