Manchester United is honoured to have been recognised for Best Fan Engagement at this year's Women's Football Awards.
Women’s football icons, allies, sporting legends and advocates alike turned out in force, including Alex Scott, Jermaine Jenas, Dame Kelly Holmes and Dame Denise Lewis.
The club’s award for Best Fan Engagement is in recognition of the continued commitment our supporters show for the team and our collective approach to strengthening the relationship between club, team and fan.
Reds goalkeeper Mary Earps and defender Maya Le Tissier were also awarded with World Cup Hero and Young Player of the Year, respectively. Neither player could attend, due to their preparations for England Lionesses' game against France this Friday evening, but they both recorded video messages that were played at the event.
“I just wanted to say a massive thank you for the award,”
commented Maya. “I really appreciate it, and all the support and the votes for me. I feel very proud to have won the award.”
Mary said in her message: “I just want to say thank you very much to everyone who voted for me as the World Cup Hero of 2023. It was obviously an incredible time, with incredible memories, and I'm really grateful that you guys voted for me for this award.”
As well as those initiatives, we are proud to have celebrated five years of our official Manchester United Women’s Supporters’ club and premiered our One Love: Trailblazers documentary showcasing the incredible support of our fanbase to the world, and co-created a blueprint for the women’s game in the first of its kind, a live event titled 'Stronger Together'.
“We are delighted to win the award for Best Fan Engagement at the Women’s Football Awards. In the six years since our women’s team reformed, we have seen our fanbase grow and develop as they passionately follow the team home and away. This was never more evident than at Wembley earlier this month when we secured our first ever Women’s FA Cup win in front of a sea of red, white and black.
“Building a strong relationship between our players and fans is incredibly important and we are proud of the work we have done along with the Manchester United Women’s Supporters’ Club this year – giving fans the opportunity to spend time with the players, be part of club campaigns and travel to home and away games together.
“I would like to thank and congratulate everyone at the club who has worked tirelessly this year to deepen our engagement with our loyal fans. We are excited about the future growth of our Women’s team and to doing lots more with our brilliant fans.”
