Fixture info: U21s face City on Friday

Manchester United’s Under-21s will travel to Manchester City on Friday 9 May (19:00 BST) in the Premier League 2 play-offs semi-final.

The young Reds finished fifth in the regular season, during which each side in the 26-team division plays 20 unique opponents once, either home or away.

At the campaign’s end, the top 16 clubs are pitted against one another in the play-offs, with table-toppers City hosting 16th-placed Liverpool, second-placed Fulham welcoming 15th-placed Nottingham Forest and so on.

United hosted 12th-placed Everton in the round of 16, and twice came from behind to win 4-2 at Leigh Sports Village. Ethan Wheatley scored an impressive double, with the other two goals from midfielders Tyler Fletcher and Sekou Kone.

West Ham United were the next visitors to LSV and also led against Travis Binnion’s charges, who once more showed good character to come from behind and score another four.

This time, James Scanlon, Wheatley, Sam Murray and Sam Mather were the scorers.

City, meanwhile, were forced into extra-time by Liverpool in the round of 16. Divin Mubama, having already netted once in the 90 minutes, scored a 107th-minute winner to set up another home tie, against Arsenal.

The north London club went ahead early on through Khayon Edwards and doubled their lead through Louie Copley, requiring City to mount a dramatic late turnaround.

Goals from Ashton Muir and Lakyle Samuel — the latter in the 94th minute — sent the game into extra-time, where Mubama, again, scored the winner.
