Marc Skinner has reiterated the objectives for Manchester United Women after his side's ruthless display against Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
After the entertaining 5-0 win, the manager made his ambitions very clear by telling Sky Sports: “We for sure want to win titles here.”
However, Skinner won't get carried away, as he continued: “We've won a game today and we've got another big game coming up in the league and then two in the cup.
”We will take it game by game but we want to make sure we keep our standards extremely high, and if that pushes us towards a title then so be it.“
Despite hitting Villa for five in a dominant display, Skinner said that he wants even more from his side going forward.
“It's just about movement. We're not a team that likes to let our opponents have shadows on us, so when you block our passing lines we have to move out of them.
”It wasn't choice words [at half-time]. It was just reminders. After the Arsenal game when we performed like we did, and then you come into this game, you're like 'come on, I want to see the progression'. But our quality is there.
“We need to keep our standards high and our players felt that too. They enjoyed it but we expect more from ourselves.”
Five different Reds scored in front of the Old Trafford faithful, which Skinner believes is telling of the differences between this season and last season.
“What it shows us is that our system is not rigid, it has the ability to change, with different ways of goal scoring,”
he told club media.
“I think that's what I was looking at last year. When we were having those frustrating games, we didn't have different ways to score goals, we had great players but we've now added different ways [to score].
”Even just like the little nudges, the team building, the individuals following in, it's all part of of the greater project we're trying to build here.“
From Skinner's point of view, the pick of the five goals came from Alessia Russo, who finished off a wonderfully worked move between herself, Ella Toone and Ona Batlle.
“That was the goal where I'm like 'that is very much how we play',”
Skinner said, visibly pleased.
“Even Ona [Batlle]'s goal, to be honest, where we play around the corner, we link, we come back and we go again - and then we have runners invading spaces.
”That is very much a Manchester United goal that we will look for in the future.“
United welcomed a record home crowd for the women's team at the Theatre of Dreams, with 30,196 spectators in attendance.
“It means the world to have our fans and play in front of our fans at this wonderful stadium,”
Skinner added.
