Rashford: I want silverware every season

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has revealed he is motivated to always end a season with at least one trophy.

Echoing the sentiments of former Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who often made similar ambitions clear when setting his stall out before a campaign, the homegrown youngster appreciates the opportunity available on Saturday when Chelsea provide the opposition in the Emirates FA Cup final.

Despite his tender age of 20, Rashford has already won the FA Cup, the League Cup, the Europa League and the Community Shield. The England international will also be competing at his first World Cup finals this summer, after being named in Gareth Southgate's squad on Wednesday.

Yet his determination to keep adding more honours was evident when he discussed this weekend's final with ManUtd.com at the Aon Training Complex.

Marcus Rashford helped the Reds overcome Spurs at Wembley in the semi-final.

“It's got massive importance for us,” he said. “Finishing the season off with a trophy is always good and would put us in good spirits for next season.

"I think the most important thing is winning that trophy to put us in good stead and, mentally, I always say you don't want to go a season without winning something. That's my determination - to try to win something each year. Hopefully, we can get one this year.

“I think the first trophy sets you off. When you win the first one, the hunger and determination goes up to a level you didn't think it could reach. Now I'm always hungry for it - just the results and the trophies.”

Rashford may have scored against Chelsea in the past but believes that will count for nothing when the action gets under way on the big stage.

“Finals are different games, you know,” he suggested. “They've got a lot of big players and big players always turn up in big games. It's going to be an exciting match and, if it comes down to a fight, we have to be ready to fight for each other.

"Chelsea are a very good team with a lot of quality players. On the day, they can cause problems for anyone. We have to approach the game with the correct mentality. We know it's going to be a tough game and we have got to be ready to fight.“
