Rashford's on fire... at De Gea's expense

With friends like that, who needs enemies.

David De Gea could have that very thought as he flies back from Spain to rejoin Marcus Rashford in club colours, after his United team-mate scored past him in the UEFA Nations League for the second time this season.

England's thrilling 3-2 triumph in Seville was built in Manchester, with Reds star Rashford setting up City forward Raheem Sterling for the 16th-minute opener with a brilliantly weighted ball into his path and then making it 2-0 himself by taking a touch to control Harry Kane's pass and rifling a finish beyond a frustrated De Gea.
Rashford scores England's second goal as Spain defender Jonny Castro Otto closes in to challenge him.

It was Rashford's third goal in four international games this season, after his September strikes against Switzerland (1-0) and Spain who, on that occasion at Wembley, came from behind to win 2-1.

Sterling, who had previously gone three years without scoring for England, doubled his tally and put his side 3-0 up for half-time when he converted from another Kane assist.

De Gea and his colleagues looked shell-shocked at the break and no wonder - it was the first time their national team had ever conceded three goals in a competitive home game, and their last defeat in such a context came 15 years and 38 matches ago, at the hands of Greece in June 2003.

A reaction was expected and Spain dominated possession in the second period, threatening a comeback when Paco Alcacer scored with a glancing header in the 58th minute. But the home side couldn't find another way past Jordan Pickford until it really was too little, too late - Sergio Ramos's diving header was timed in the seventh minute of injury time.

De Gea looks frustrated after conceding Rashford's 29th-minute goal for England.

The fact the win was achieved with England's youngest starting line-up of the 21st century made it all the sweeter for head coach Gareth Southgate. And who was the youngest player in the eleven? A certain Marcus Rashford, aged 20 years and 11 months old.
