Fellaini the fighter earns praise from Jose

Marouane Fellaini’s versatility, attitude and character have been praised by Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, as the Belgian continues to be influential at both ends of the field.

Fellaini signed a new contract in the summer and has operated in a number of different roles of late, scoring the late headed equaliser for the 10-man hosts in the Carabao Cup tie with Derby County on his last appearance at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old also forced a superb save out of Lukasz Fabianski in the second half of the weekend defeat at West Ham United and has been nominated for our September Player-of-the-Month award, alongside David De Gea and Luke Shaw.

"You can feel Marouane's commitment, his heart and his happiness to be at the club."

Jose Mourinho

Speaking to MUTV before the clash with the Hammers, Jose expressed his satisfaction with Fellaini’s consistency and professionalism. “I am very happy with him,” said the boss. “He is one of the players that has improved from last season.

”He’s playing well in different positions. You can feel his commitment, his heart and his happiness to be at the club, and to stay at the club, and to play for the club. Clearly, he is showing that famous thing of the team being more important than one of us and he has sacrificed himself for the team.

”He is being more defensive in some matches and then being almost like a striker in others, like he was in the last match [at Old Trafford] when we needed a goal and we had one player less. I’m really happy with Marouane’s stability and performances.”

Fellaini will hope to be involved when Valencia face United in the Champions League at Old Trafford tonight (Tuesday).
