Manchester United's Under-18s kept the pressure on league leaders Manchester City in the U18 Premier League after beating Leeds United 2-0.
Jay McEvoy opened the scoring five minutes into the second half, as he thundered a drive into the bottom corner.
Gabriel was then fouled by Leeds goalkeeper George Kenyon inside the final five minutes, stepping up to score our second of the afternoon from the rebound, after Kenyon had blocked the initial penalty.
Darren Fletcher's side saw the game out with ease, as our Academy side held on for a 13th successive win in all competitions.
FIRST HALF
Fletcher's side started the brighter of the two, with Noah Ajayi pressing Leeds defender and captain Louie Dudley into an early mistake, although the hosts eventually cleared.
Carrick Njinko won and took a free-kick soon after, which was saved well by Cameron Byrne-Hughes, before Elton Simo’s close range effort from a corner was blocked by Junior Brown.
Joseph Bhaskaran was doing well governing the midfield and thwarting our advances, although Gabriel did well to get his shot away soon after, which was blocked by Joshua Hamilton.
A looping cross found its way to Thomas Stockton who shot over soon after, with Byrne-Hughes relatively untested in the first 45.
The best chance, however, fell to Gabriel, who was set free by Jacob Watson. The teenager took one touch but blazed over the bar.
SECOND HALF
Just three minutes into the second half, the deadlock was broken, as Yuel Helafu stole the ball back from the hosts.
He eventually teed up McEvoy, and the young midfielder drove an effort towards the bottom left corner, that beat Kenyon.
Ajayi was continuing to cause problems over on the left-hand side of our attack, bending an effort that again had to be denied by the Whites' 'keeper.
Brown then had a succession of his own efforts, including a header that cannoned back off the upright as our forward thrusts continued.
As Fletcher rang in the changes, there was still time for us to add another goal to our tally.
Gabriel pressed goalkeeper Kenyon into a mistake, before being felled by the Whites' shot-stopper, leaving the referee no choice but to point to the spot.
Our no.10 saw his spot-kick saved, but was the quickest to react, slamming the ball home to double our lead and make sure of the win.
