U18s: United 1 Everton 3

Manchester United Under-18s suffered a 3-1 defeat in Everton's U18 Premier League visit to Carrington.

The young Reds got off to a good start thanks to Jariyah Shah, who provided us the lead with just three minutes on the clock.

Ray Robert levelled the game on the other side of the interval from the spot, following a trip from Yuel Helafu.

It then fell to Melvin Matos to put the Toffees ahead for the first time in the game with 10 minutes remaining, before striker Ceiran Loney confirmed the result with a stoppage-time strike.

Jariyah Shah provided United the lead early in the first half.

FIRST HALF

There was almost no time for either side to adjust to the game before Shah had rifled his effort into the top-right corner from the edge of the box, having picked up the loose ball in the aftermath of a James Bailey corner.

Darren Fletcher's side saw the majority of the ball from that point on in the first 45 minutes, punctuated by a few ventures forward for the visitors.

Cameron Byrne-Hughes did well to maintain the lead with half an hour played, tipping Ademide Akarakiri's header over the bar. There were claims from the opposition that the subsequent corner delivery crossed the line, but those appeals were quickly waved away by the referee.

Gabriel fashioned a couple of attempts on goal as the break neared, but was unable to breach Douglas Lukjanciks' goal, before Helafu maintained the advantage in added time with a clearance off the line.

SECOND HALF

Gabriel and Nathaniel-Junior Brown both had promising efforts on goal early in the second period, but it was Everton who made the first impact in this half, when Helafu was judged to have tripped Robert in the box, the latter stepping up and converting from the spot.

United cranked up the pressure from that point, playing the majority of the game in the visitors' half and almost netting directly from the corner flag in quick succession, with Lukjanciks tipping both Gabriel's and Bailey's efforts out of play.

However, somewhat against the run of the match, the Toffees had an opportunity at the other end from a corner. Kean Wren delivered the ball which was cleared by the young Reds, but only as far as Matos, who dispatched a driven shot into the bottom-left, just beyond the grasp of Byrne-Hughes.

Fletcher's side worked hard to try and salvage something from the game at this point, but the result was put beyond doubt when Loney netted Everton's third in stoppage-time.

James Bailey troubled the opposition defence from set-pieces on multiple occasions.
