Report: West Ham 1 United 1

Manchester United maintained our unbeaten run under Michael Carrick after a dramatic Benjamin Sesko equaliser claimed a late Premier League point at West Ham United.

The Slovenian striker scored his fifth goal in six matches deep into stoppage time to stretch United’s unbeaten run to nine games.

It looked like a first defeat since before Christmas for the in-form Reds after Tomas Soucek struck from close range early into the second half.

But we have scored in every away game since September, and late pressure produced the grandstand finish with Sesko sparking wild scenes when he turned in Bryan Mbeumo’s cross six minutes into time added on, in a breathless finale.
Luke Shaw went close to scoring his first goal of the season in the first half.

FIRST HALF - STEADY, IF UNSPECTACULAR

United dictated the pace of the game early on but with Crysencio Summerville in the goalscoring form of his life, danger was never far away.

The winger, who had scored five goals in as many matches, cut in from the left and unleashed a fierce drive from distance, looking for a 12th-minute breakthrough. Senne Lammens was equal to it and pushed the first chance of the match wide.

Bruno Fernandes has been involved in 10 goals in his past eight away matches, with two goals and eight assists. If the Portuguese creates another he will become the outright record holder as the United player with the most away assists in a single Premier League season.

He is currently level with Ryan Giggs's 2001/02 tally of eight, and was so close to a ninth when defender Luke Shaw, hunting his first Premier League goal since January 2023, flashed his left boot at Bruno’s well-directed corner.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who made 130 appearances for the Reds between 2019 and 2024, kept the first-time effort out with his knee.

West Ham themselves are also enjoying their best spell of the season, winning nine points from a possible 12 and were in no mood to allow United space in midfield, meaning big moments were at a premium.

Not a minute of added time was signalled at the end of the half, but the encounter remained all to play for after the restart.

Casemiro was making his 150th appearance for the club.

SECOND HALF - SUPER SUB SESKO RESCUES A POINT

West Ham made the quicker start when play resumed and took the lead when Soucek and Jarrod Bowen exchanged passes. England’s Bowen crossed low from the right and found the former, who tapped home his 39th Hammers goal, making him the highest scoring Czech player in Premier League history.

A blow, but United were safe in the knowledge that we have scored in all but one away match this season, and have also come from behind to beat Crystal Palace and Arsenal in recent months.

Carrick's Reds nearly hit back soon after when Casemiro headed the ball into the net, but the Brazilian couldn't quite keep himself onside after Kobbie Mainoo’s exquisite cross, and VAR stepped in to quieten the away fans and warm the vocal chords of the West Ham support.

Harry Maguire and Matheus Cunha made way for Leny Yoro and Sesko soon after, with the game now being played in the hosts' half.

Yoro made two big blocks before Sesko struck.

Joshua Zirkzee, who helped turn things around when we were losing at Crystal Palace, was also brought on to try and flip things around, a few miles down the road from his last away goal.

Three minutes into seven added on at the end of the 90, he nearly had another goal in the capital when an off-balance Fernandes found his feet, controlled the ball well and whipped in a brilliant cross. Zirkzee did everything right but his header was six inches wide of the post with Hermansen defeated. That seemed to be that.

Two big blocks from Yoro at the other end kept the game alive, before Sesko struck in the sixth minute of added time. Mbeumo delivered from the right as the forward got in ahead of Axel Disasi, and flicked the ball in on the volley, to the delight of our travelling fans.

There was still time for Amad to have a run forward in search of what would have been a dramatic winner, but shortly after that advance was cut out, referee Simon Hooper blew his full-time whistle. A draw it finished.

Sesko's late flick earned United a point.
