Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick said that Casemiro has a “sixth sense”
when it comes to goalscoring.
The deep-lying midfielder is more commonly known for his work going the other way, but has managed to plunder a career-best eight goals so far this season, with his latest coming last time out against Leeds United at Old Trafford.
Although the visitors left with the three points on that occasion, his goal rallied the Reds to pushing for an equaliser right until the final whistle, despite it unfortunately not arriving.
Nevertheless, Case is signing off his final season with United in style, and impressing Carrick in the process.
“He's certainly got the knack and the feeling, and that sense in and around the box,”
the head coach told MUTV in an exclusive interview ahead of our trip to Chelsea.
“He's got that sixth sense, in some ways that you can't necessarily coach or you can't necessarily always give the perfect moment or the action or the run to fit the cross.
”You've got to put yourself in positions and sense the space and then, obviously, on top of that, to finish it and show the composure.
“I think he's certainly done that this season.”
No player has assisted our no.18 more during his United career than Bruno Fernandes, with six of his eight goals this season being provided by our captain.
The Portuguese magician had already laid on four assists for Casemiro before this season, but during this campaign has found a way to consistently pick out the former Real Madrid man, invariably getting on the end of a cross with his head.
Carrick was keen to stress, however, that although this is his best tally for a single season, it's not a new talent recently acquired.
“He's always scored important goals,”
the boss admitted. “He's always found himself there at certain times.
”He's scored good goals for us, important goals, [just] this season alone.
“Unfortunately, that one [against Leeds] just wasn't quite enough for us to get back in the game.”
Carrick will be hoping Casemiro can put his sixth sense to good use on Saturday night, as an important clash in the race for UEFA Champions League football awaits us at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, a team he's put three past for the Reds previously.
