Carrick hints at Dorgu training return

Michael Carrick has suggested that Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu could return to team training over the next seven days.

Dorgu hasn’t featured since suffering a muscle injury at Arsenal in January.

Our no.13 had been in stellar form, scoring three times since Boxing Day, including a stunner earlier in that clash at the Emirates Stadium and goals against Manchester City and Newcastle United.

The Denmark international has been working hard on his recovery at Carrington ever since, and was part of the group that travelled over to County Kildare, Ireland a fortnight ago. Dorgu could be seen training individually with fitness coaches during the training camp, ahead of our return to action after a 24-day break.

Now, with a month of the 2025/26 season left to play, it seems as though the wideman is ready to take the next step.

Carrick: There’s a lot at stakevideo

“Patrick's looking to get back closer to the group in a very small part, which is fantastic, because he's worked so hard over a period of time now,” Carrick told MUTV’s Zarah Connolly.

“So it'll be good to have him back in and around the group within the next week or so.”

Dorgu will have a watching brief for Monday night’s clash with Brentford, who are chasing a first-ever European place.

United could all-but end the Bees’ UEFA Champions League hopes with victory, but Carrick isn’t taking Keith Andrews’ men for granted.

“They're a very good team, I have to say,” he added.

“Keith's done an unbelievable job this season and in so many different ways, you know. He needs a lot of credit for that.

“They’re right up there challenging, it’s really tight. There’s a lot to play for, but they’re a good team and make it really difficult.

“It’s a big challenge for us. They’ve got some really good players and are very dangerous going forward, so we’re going to have to be ready for that.”

TEAM NEWS REMINDER

Matthijs de Ligt has been pictured working hard on his rehabilitation at Carrington.

While Lisandro Martinez is still suspended for another two games, Harry Maguire is available to return once more.

Leny Yoro was not spotted at training on Thursday, but Carrick has suggested there is a possibility the Frenchman could be available against Brentford.
