Carrick: Let's keep this momentum and atmosphere

Michael Carrick is looking forward to Manchester United’s return to Old Trafford on Sunday and hopes his team can continue to build a growing connection with our fans.

Carrick’s Reds have been buoyantly backed by supporters across a six-match unbeaten run since the former United midfielder returned to the club as our head coach in January.

That includes on the road, as we’ve drawn at West Ham United and won away to Everton since our last Old Trafford outing, the 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on 7 February, which will be more than three weeks in the rear-view mirror once Crystal Palace arrive in M16 on Sunday.

The boss is looking forward to being back in front of our home faithful for the 14:00 GMT kick-off and has urged all involved with United to look to carry on the positive mood that has been a feature of our recent form.

“[Let’s] keep that momentum, keep that atmosphere,”
Carrick says in his pre-Palace interview with MUTV, which you can watch in full above.

“I have to say the away fans again the other night were incredible, but to be back home and feel that love and support and energy [will be great].

“Hopefully, everyone comes feeling good and makes a lot of noise.

“We have that connection because it’s been great to see over recent weeks. We’ve got to keep building on that and keep pushing.

“We’ve got big games coming up, this is as important as ever, so everyone’s got to be ready for it.”

It’s the first of two games in four days for Carrick’s men, who will hope to strengthen our place in the UEFA Champions League race at home to Palace, before travelling to face Newcastle United in another Premier League fixture on Wednesday.

The Reds started the top-flight weekend fourth in the table, three points ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool in fifth and sixth respectively.

After the midweek visit to Newcastle – where we’re sure to have another strong away backing, despite the late 20:15 GMT kick-off time – it’s an 11-day gap to when we host third-placed Aston Villa on Sunday 15 March, in what will likely be another important clash in the top-four battle.
