Carrick's update on Sesko injury

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has provided some insight into why Benjamin Sesko was replaced at half-time of the 3-2 win over Liverpool.

The Slovenia international scored the second goal of the fabulous victory, his 11th in the league and 12th in all competitions, and led the line magnificently.

However, he was clearly hurt when being shoved off the pitch by Ibrahima Konate, when trying to protect the ball towards the corner flag.

It led to a nasty fall into the advertising hoardings and Sesko was unable to continue, following the break.

Carrick: Old Trafford can be a special placevideo

“He got a bang on his shin when he fell down the side of the pitch,“ Carrick explained to MUTV.

"It’s something that he’s been carrying for a little bit as well, so we’ve had to manage him a bit but he’s certainly had a bang right on the same spot.

“It’s as simple as that really.”

In a separate interview with Sky Sports, Carrick added: “He's been carrying a bit of a shin problem for some time and it was when we got pushed into the hoarding and down the dip. So that was it.”

The centre-forward's ability to hold the ball up in attack was clearly missed in the second half but Kobbie Mainoo came up trumps with a superb 77th-minute winner on another great afternoon for the Reds.

United are next in action on Saturday, when travelling to Sunderland for our penultimate away fixture of the campaign.

Sesko netted in the corresponding game against the Black Cats and will hope to be available for the trip to the north east.
