Carrick provides positive update on Dorgu

Michael Carrick provided a positive-sounding injury update regarding Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, following our 3-2 win at Arsenal.

Dorgu was a key figure in last weekend’s Manchester derby win and also proved pivotal to our north London success.

The Denmark international struck a sensational volley to give United the lead minutes into the second half, with his strike rattling the crossbar before bouncing over the line and nestling in David Raya’s net.

It was our no.13’s second goal in two games and he has now scored three times in a month for the Reds, having adopted a more attacking position recently.

Carrick: Emotion and passion... it's fantastic!

Unfortunately, he had to sit out the dramatic closing 10 minutes, during which Mikel Merino levelled for the Gunners before Matheus Cunha struck the winner.

Dorgu pulled up injured following a tangle with Ben White, and appeared to be clutching his hamstring – a worrying sight for a player who has been going great guns so far in 2026.

However, Carrick clarified in his post-match press conference that, while a more accurate assessment could not yet be made, he hoped it was just cramp, rather than a serious muscle issue.

“Pat’s been a big player for us, obviously he’s scored two goals but in terms of the threat and athleticism and quality, he’s been immense down the side with Luke [Shaw] against two teams that ask a lot of questions,” said Carrick.

“I am delighted for him because the two goals he’s scored are very different goals. It's nice to see him smiling and happy.

“He obviously came off with, hopefully, a little bit of cramp, hopefully, it's nothing worse.

“At this stage, it's hard to tell, so we'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully it's not too bad.”

United’s next game sees us host Fulham on Sunday 1 February, in a 14:00 GMT kick-off.
