Team news for Manchester derby

Michael Carrick has provided the latest squad news, ahead of Manchester United's derby game with neighbours City.

Our head coach held his first press conference since taking the reins, in order to preview Saturday's 12:30 GMT kick-off against Pep Guardiola's Blues.

Amad and Bryan Mbeumo are back from the Africa Cup of Nations but Noussair Mazraoui is still bidding for glory in Morocco, as the hosts take on Senegal in Sunday night's final.

Shea Lacey is suspended, following his red card in the Emirates FA Cup tie with Brighton & Hove Albion, but Harry Maguire made his first appearance after injury in the defeat to the Seagulls.

Centre-back Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined, as Carrick confirmed in his pre-match interview with MUTV's Zarah Connolly, following the media briefing.

There is, however, hope the big Dutchman will return to the grass soon.

“We've had a good week really,” said Carrick. “Matthijs de Ligt has been carrying a bit of an issue but, hopefully, we'll get him back in some time soon.

”It's been a little bit slower than what they thought previously.

“All in all, the boys are in good shape. I just feel the energy, whether it's fresh or not! Obviously, I'm delighted to be here. I want to work a certain way, I want to enjoy what we do and work hard to get success. The boys have put the work in this week and we feel we're ready.”

CITY'S TEAM NEWS

Centre-backs Josko Gvardiol, John Stones and Ruben Dias are all absent due to injury, and Mateo Kovacevic is still sidelined.

“Ruben will be back soon,” said Pep Guardiola. “Josko, no. John, hopefully [back soon], we will see.”

The reigning champions are plugging the gap by closing in on a move for England international Marc Guehi but, although Crystal Palace have confirmed a deal is close, obviously no move has been finalised for the defender to play on Saturday.

Rodri has returned from his lay-off but Oscar Bobb is unavailable, and Omar Marmoush is still with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, as they meet Nigeria in the third/fourth-placed play-off this weekend.

Antoine Semenyo, who scored at Old Trafford for Bournemouth in the 4-4 draw last month, is in line for his Premier League debut for his new club.

A decision will be taken on Nico Gonzalez's fitness after training on Friday.
