'We want to make it our own and carry on growing'

Millie Turner and Gabby George have shared some of their invaluable experience and knowledge to mark International Women's Day.

In alignment with the 2026 theme of 'Give to Gain', we put three topical questions to the United Women duo and you can read what they have to say here…

What is the most valuable thing someone can give to women's football?

Millie:
“Better education around everything. The professional side of it has grown so much, so just bringing that with us. I know that a lot of teams, lower down, are going full-time now, which is great, and that's definitely bridging the gap. But I think more clubs can do that.”

Gabby: “Recognising that the women's game is the women's game and we want to make it our own and carry on growing it, so little girls have things to dream about when they're younger. I think, when we were growing up, there wasn't that exposure and I think we're giving it back now.”

Watch as Millie and Gabby share their advice for young girls thinking of playing football.

What is something you'd like to give Manchester United so that players coming in gain a better environment than when you started?

Millie:
“Being positive around the environment and leading by example. Obviously, I have been here since the start, so I have seen everyone come and go. I just hope that the environment that we have and the togetherness continues. I think it is really special what we have here.”

Gabby:
“We are happy for them and, whenever they need an arm around the shoulder, we are there for them. I think it's just about creating an environment where everyone can come in and be themselves.”

What is one piece of advice you'd give to a young girl who is nervous about playing football?

Millie:
“I would say that I was nervous too and you just to ride those nerves. Nerves are also really good because they get you ready and they prepare you. As long as you enjoy what you do and you love what you do, then nerves are great.”

Gabby:
“I think the most important thing about playing football is enjoying it. You give so many hours and make so many sacrifices to do something you love, it's really important that you have the love for the sport and you continue to bring that daily. As long as you are enjoying it, you will continue to progress and you will continue to become a better version of yourself.”
