Solskjaer heaps praise on Ander Herrera

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer singled out Ander Herrera for praise after the Spaniard’s hard work and selfless play has allowed the likes of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford to express themselves during Manchester United's seven-match winning streak.

Herrera has played in all of Solskjaer’s winning Premier League games this season and has been pivotal in breaking up play alongside Nemanja Matic in central midfield, which has allowed United’s flair players to attack with freedom further up the field.

United's no.21 has also had an impact going forward, having found the net in stunning fashion in Solskjaer’s first game in charge against Cardiff City as United kicked off Ole’s reign in style, as well as  assisting Pogba for goals against Huddersfield and Bournemouth. And the Spaniard’s tireless work and selfless performances have not gone unnoticed by the Reds boss.

Ole's post-match press conference video

“Ander is a midfielder who is a bit different to Paul [Pogba] and to Nemanja [Matic] with their physical attributes. He runs and runs. He runs with the ball and plays it simple,” Ole told reporters in his post-match press conference following the win over Brighton at Old Trafford.

“He also makes some good runs into the box, although we let Paul do more of that job and Ashley [Young] maybe from the right-hand side, but I’ll never stop him making runs into the box and, hopefully, he’ll continue making them like he does.”

Solskjaer also admitted that he admired Ander while the midfielder was at Athletic Club.

“I’ve always enjoyed watching Ander, he admitted. “When we signed him from Athletic Bilbao, he did really well against us for them as well [in the Europa League] and he caught my eye back then.”
