Dorgu's volley is Goal of the Month

Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu's volley against Newcastle United on Boxing Day has been named Manchester United's Goal of the Month for December.

Netting his first goal for the club, and the decisive strike against the Magpies, Dorgu thundered a drive into the bottom corner to ensure a 1-0 win for the Reds.

The Dane celebrated wildly and has had to wait a while for his maiden goal since joining the club from Lecce.

It was a special moment that earned thousands of votes from fans in our poll.

It was Diogo Dalot's long throw into the box that initially caused the visitors problems, with Nick Woltemade winning the first contact and attempting to clear the danger.

Unfortunately for him, Patrick ran onto the loose ball before smashing a low strike that beat Aaron Ramsdale and flew into the bottom left corner.

Mobbed by his team-mates soon after, Patrick admitted scoring his first goal for the club, and it coming at Old Trafford, will always stay with him.

“It was a good hit,” he told Sky Sports on Boxing Day. “I didn’t know I could do that!

”But I was very happy to score my first goal in this stadium as well. It was amazing. I took what [Ruben Amorim] told me, to work on my confidence.

“I think I did well today. I just looked at the ball and saw it drop and hit it. I have been practising in training. I think that's what helped me.”

Seeing off other contenders which included Bruno Fernandes's precise free-kick against Bournemouth and Matheus Cunha's fine drive against Aston Villa, Patrick is a worthy winner.

It's the first time he has received the award, of course with it being his first goal, but we hope he can add more between now and the end of the season.

Congratulations, Patrick!
