Congratulations to Manchester United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce, who is our Women’s Player of the Month for January.
Her contribution to those shutouts and beyond were recognised by a majority 34 per cent of voters in our poll on ManUtd.com and in the United App.
That count ensured she narrowly pipped Elisabeth Terland (31 per cent) to the prize, while overcoming further competition from fellow nominees Julia Zigiotti (20 per cent) and Dominique Janssen (15 per cent).
Our no.91 previously received the accolade for her performances in December 2024 and April 2025, en route to being named our Women’s Players’ Player of the Year last term, her first as the team's main goalkeeper.
That collection including a stoppage-time save to crucially deny a goalbound strike from Victoria Pelova, and ‘Phal’ went on to keep out the Gunners again in the Subway Women’s League Cup semis, as the Reds won 1-0 to advance to the final.
In between those shutouts was another clean sheet as we beat Burnley 5-0 in the fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup and, while Aston Villa were the first side to find a way past Phallon last time out, United eventually triumphed 4-1 in the WSL clash at Villa Park.
A TEAM EFFORT
The goalkeeper has been central to the Reds’ strong early-year and defensive form, but Tullis-Joyce says that is the result of a collective effort.
Speaking to us during Tuesday’s Carrington Catch-Up – which you can watch back in full on YouTube – Phallon paid tribute to her team-mates as she was asked about her start to 2026, while joining us on the video stream at our training base.
“I don’t think about the stats! My very next sentence was going to be there has been some incredible blocks by this gal here [Anna Sandberg], Jayde [Riviere], Dom [Janssen], Maya [Le Tissier] – everyone in front that’s joining the backline has just been incredible,”
the 29-year-old said, modestly.
“So, that all amounts to just that one goal [conceded], but I’m hoping for it to be zero! We’re still striving. But I just appreciate the defenders in front of me.”
