Former Manchester United defender Phil Jones has taken a big step in his coaching career.
The title-winning Red began his post-retirement work with our Academy, assisting with the Under-18s in the 2023/24 season, as he looked to move into this field.
A return to former club Blackburn Rovers was announced on Friday, as he is operating under Michael O'Neill, with the Northern Ireland boss combining both roles until the end of the season.
Jones broke into the Rovers side as a youngster, making 40 first-team appearances, before joining Sir Alex Ferguson's side in 2011.
The 33-year-old has been unveiled alongside Steven Davis and will assist O'Neill, supported by Damien Johnson, who is the technical coach and head of player development.
“I'm ambitious,”
he told us recently. “And I want to be ambitious as a coach. I feel like I'm ready for that challenge.”
The two new assistant coaches will be in place at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, in the Championship.
Blackburn are in the relegation zone, third from bottom, and desperate to start moving up the table.
Best of luck in your new role, Jonah!
