Varane shares fitness update

Manchester United defender Raphael Varane posted images and videos of his rehabilitation on Instagram this weekend, following his recent injury problem.

The Frenchman, who faces a race to be fit in time to represent his nation at this year’s World Cup, went down during the second half of our 1-1 draw at Chelsea last week, and was unable to continue.

In addition, Erik ten Hag ruled Varane out of action for the Reds until after the winter competition, ahead of United’s most recent Premier League clash with West Ham.

And on Sunday, before the 1-0 win, Raphael posted images and videos on Instagram, documenting the beginning of his rehabilitation.

The 29-year-old accompanied the post with the words: “Thank you everyone for the kind messages this week. I have been working! Feeling good. Good luck today boys @manchesterunited!”

The latest injury setback was a blow for both Varane and United, with the centre-back forming the makings of a formidable partnership with summer signing Lisandro Martinez.

Under Ten Hag, Varane was one quarter of a defence that kept six clean sheets since the defeat away to Brentford on 13 August.

But in the wake of Raphael's injury, the return to fitness of both Harry Maguire has provided a real boost, particularly with Victor Lindelof being struck down with illness.

Harry returned to United the starting XI against the Hammers on Sunday against West Ham and put in a valiant display as the Reds kept yet another clean sheet and emerged 1-0 winners.

There are now just two Premier League matches remaining before the World Cup, with the Reds aiming to continue our recent form right up to the break.

Following the tournament, in which we hope Varane can be fit enough to feature, Erik will be eager to have the Frenchman back – especially given his form so far this term.

Best of luck with the rehabilitation, Rapha!
