Ruben Amorim has explained what he means by wanting to see more aggression from his Manchester United players.
The head coach is not referring to being more abrasive in challenges, but is keen for the mindset to be to give everything, in every situation.
He is demanding his charges sprint into position and ensure the extra time to prepare for games, like Saturday teatime's encounter with Chelsea at Old Trafford, proves beneficial.
When asked if he is surprised the players aren't aggressive enough, and if he can teach that, he replied: “That is a good question. What is aggression?
”It is the way we sprint to the box to defend the box. It is if one guy is taking one or two [touches], we need to be more physical in this moment and I try to look at the details and look at the situation.
“In the end, we need to change the mindset as a team because we can win games. Last year, I said to you guys it is hard to get to the final third and get situations, this is not the same thing.
”You can paint the situation whatever you like, I see the games without sound and social media, without opinions of staff.
“Of course, one big fact is we can't win many games, we are improving, we are near the goal, we have more shots, the opponent doesn't have the same amount of opportunities as last year.
”In the end, if you do not win, that doesn't matter and that is something mental we must change.“
The theme of aggression is one that has been occupying Amorim's thoughts, as he lamented the continued absence of Lisandro Martinez during the first part of his press conference.
“We are being naive and we need to be more aggressive in order to win games,”
he added. “We just have to maintain to play the way we are playing, but improving in the opponent's box and in our box.
”I think it is [down to] belief, confidence, aggression, it is everything. Sometimes, what we call luck is when we play the game with more belief.
“It is Liverpool, winning all the games in the 90th minute. That is something about the teams that are winning, something happens often that brings that feeling. With us, I feel the opposite. We are playing well, but something is going wrong in some moments.”
The Reds will be striving to get things right in the 17:30 BST kick-off at the Theatre of Dreams.
