Amorim's analysis of a 'crazy' game

Ruben Amorim expressed his disappointment that his Manchester United side could not find a way to beat Bournemouth, despite dominating for long periods in Monday night's epic 4-4 draw.

The Reds were ahead twice in the first half before falling 3-2 down early in the second half, recovering to lead 4-3 and then conceding late on to surrender two points in our final outing at Old Trafford before Christmas.

Although the boss acknowledged it was a fun game for the neutrals and the performance was better than our previous two home games, he felt the Reds should have put the match beyond the visitors’ reach by the midway point.

Watch Amorim’s post-match chat with MUTV and read his comments in interviews with Sky Sports and BBC Sport below…

'The game was decided in the first half'video

THE RESULT SHOULD BE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

“It's really disappointing. We are really disappointed. Crazy game. It might look like we lost the two points in the second half but I think we lost them in the first half. We dominated and created so many chances. We had to go to half-time with a different result. In the end we deserved more. It was a fun game for everyone at home. I think we started really well. We did a very good first half. The result should be completely different. And then, again, I think six minutes into the second half, similar to Nottingham [Forest], we lost the concentration and they scored two goals, but we managed to get back into the game. We score two goals again and then we have to finish the game. A throw-in in our possession, we need to think about, not to go again but to take calm and to close the game. In the end, it was a fun game.”

THOUGHT THE GAME WAS OVER AT 4-3

“Yes, because I saw the effort of the players. I saw the effort of the defence, and in the end of the game, when we make 4-3, I have the feeling that we will continue to push, to score another one. We tried, but in the end, it was a draw.”

WE NEED TO WORK ON THE DETAILS

“It does seem [like] a lot of good things, but a lot of things to work [on]. We are not winning games sometimes in the details. It's not about because it's a back four, back three, back five. It’s the details that we need to work [on to] understand the momentum of the game. You need to be more clinical, because, again, today it’s against a very good team. We created so many chances to win the game, we should have won the three points.”

IMPROVED DISPLAY FROM PREVIOUS TWO HOME GAMES

“When you win away, you should win at home. But we need to focus on the performance, today was different from the last two at home. So that is also a point that we take and pay attention, it’s completely different. The result is the same, it’s one point. It's frustrating, but the performance is different. People especially at Old Trafford want to win but they want to be inspired to see a team play good football. We did that well in certain moments. It was a good performance but we need to be more clinical because we created so many chances. [Senne] Lammens did really well. There were opportunities for both sides. We created more. We need to find ways of closing the games because this happened many times. That's part of the process. We try to do things the best we can but in some moments it's not enough.”

FINDING SOLUTIONS FOR MISSING PLAYERS

“That is the fun part of being a manager, we will try to find solutions with the players that we have. After last season, I think we are ready to cope with whatever they present in front of us. So let's move on, and we already knew we had some injuries, all the teams in England have injuries. We will try to find a way to score goals in a different way.”
