Solskjaer reacts to Ronaldo transfer news

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided his reaction to Friday’s announcement that the club has reached agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The legendary ex-Red is set to return to Old Trafford, subject to the agreement of personal terms, visa and medical, and it is fair to say fans all around the world are in a state of euphoria.

Ronaldo’s move back to United must be completed before the summer transfer window closes on Tuesday night and Solskjaer is unsurprisingly excited by the prospect of having his former team-mate on board.

Speaking exclusively to club reporter Stewart Gardner before Sunday’s Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Ole gave this update on the much-celebrated news.

“Of course the fans have been excited for the last couple of days, we all are of course,“ said the boss. “He has had such a great career and he has been here before. Hopefully we can just finalise the paperwork and announce it. He is going to give everybody a boost, of course. I played with him, he's a great player, he is a top human being, he is a top professional, so he will give everybody in the squad and everybody around the club a buzz.”

In a separate interview with Sky Sports, Solskjaer went on to discuss the impact that Ronaldo will have on our strikers and the squad as a whole.

“I think everyone’s looking forward to having Cristiano in and the paperwork done,” said the boss. “I think it just adds more confidence and belief in what we’re doing.

“We’re gradually improved and improved and signed younger players. Now we’ve signed Jadon, who is also a young player and Raphael who is experienced and won everything. Now hopefully Cristiano can come in and show what he’s done in his career.

“He’s a more experienced player than when he was here last time. He’s evolved and had an unbelievable career. All the talk about how he’s too old- just make it personal and he’ll show what he can do.”

Luke Shaw also spoke to Sky Sports ahead of kick-off and the popular left-back admitted the prospective transfer has electrified the squad.

“I feel like it’s given the club a massive lift, not just inside but also outside. Obviously it’s a big positive. He’s been one of the best players in the world for a number of years now. Everyone is excited for him to come in and not just learn from him but to be able to play with him too.”
