England boss Thomas Tuchel has confirmed he is considering recalling Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo.
The Three Lions head coach was at Manchester United's 1-1 draw with West Ham United to run the rule over the in-form Reds.
With the World Cup finals on the horizon, the update provided by Tuchel will come as a timely boost to the trio, as they continue the long preparation to our next outing, the away game at Everton a week on Monday.
“They were always in the picture, but they are more so now in the picture,”
Tuchel told talkSPORT.
“I guessed that they were in the starting line-up [on Tuesday night] and I guessed right. That’s why I wanted to see them. I wanted to see them live.
“I’m very happy that they are in good form and in good shape because they are back in the picture.
”March gives us the chance to have a last look at players before we need to nominate for our trip to the US. So, yes, they’re in the picture and I’m happy because competition is on.“
In a separate interview, he added: “He [Mainoo] is absolutely back in the frame. First of all, it is great that he is back on the pitch. He is such a huge talent.
”He has already played a tournament from start to finish for England, so he is back in the picture, so is Luke Shaw and so is Harry Maguire.
“There are some players suddenly back in the picture. They play a back four now and play with a different style, which is a bit easier to translate to our structure at the moment.”
England, one of the favourites to lift the trophy in the summer, face Uruguay and Japan in friendlies at the end of March.
Maguire continued his impressive form with a commanding display at the London Stadium but was withdrawn, possibly with a knock, for Leny Yoro.
Shaw is an ever-present in the 2025/26 Premier League, while Mainoo only started his first league game of the campaign in the win over Manchester City, but has shown his quality under Michael Carrick.
Left-back Shaw's last cap was in the Euro 2024 final, against Spain, while Mainoo also started that game but has only played 13 minutes for his country since, coming on as a substitute against Republic of Ireland in September 2024.
Maguire started in the Ireland tie in the UEFA Nations League and was an unused substitute against Finland in the following game, but has not been selected over the same period.
