Manchester United fans can look forward to welcoming the 1999 defence back to Old Trafford for the Treble Reunion match on 26 May.
Peter Schmeichel will lead the backline as he takes his position between the sticks once again, and has strong support from his former team-mates, including Jaap Stam, Gary Neville and Denis Irwin.
“I’m really looking forward to the occasion at Old Trafford,”said the Danish legend. “The whole defence has said 'yes' to this match and it’s brilliant. And I’m very, very fortunate that the other goalkeeper is Raimond van der Gouw, probably the fittest 55-year-old man in the world!” The Treble Reunion match will see Manchester United Legends take on Bayern Munich Legends, exactly 20 years to the date that United emerged victorious in the most dramatic of finals. The two teams will now meet once again in an anniversary match to raise funds for Manchester United Foundation.
“When you achieve something so extraordinary, you need to celebrate it and it needs to be there for everyone to see and be inspired by. What we did back in 1999 has not been done before and not been done since. “I’m really looking forward to being there, meeting all the fans the way I used to, and, of course, seeing everybody. That is a great occasion.”
Fans can look forward to welcoming Sir Alex and a host of Manchester United legends back to the Theatre of Dreams, including many players who graced the hallowed turf in 1999 and lifted the FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League trophies during that iconic season. More names will be announced in due course.
